The victim, Gurbindar Singh, serves as the AAP youth president of the Fatehgarh Churian Assembly segment. The attack occurred late on Tuesday evening in Qadian Rajputa village when he was reportedly leaving his uncle's residence.
According to reports, Gurbindar Singh had just stepped out of his uncle's house and was about to enter his vehicle when two unidentified youths riding a motorcycle approached and opened fire. Eyewitnesses, including his uncle Mukhbain Singh, stated that the attackers fired three rounds during the assault.
Two bullets struck Gurbindar Singh in his legs, leaving him severely injured. Following the shooting, the assailants fled the scene immediately, avoiding capture.
Family members and local residents rushed the injured village head to the Civil Hospital in Batala for emergency treatment. After providing initial medical care, doctors referred him to a hospital in Amritsar due to the seriousness of his condition.
Police officials confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation has been launched. Fatehgarh Churian Deputy Superintendent of Police Lalit Kumar stated that investigators are examining multiple angles to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Meanwhile, unverified claims circulating on social media suggest that a gangster group has claimed responsibility for the shooting. However, police officials said that such claims are currently being verified and no conclusion has yet been reached regarding the motive behind the attack.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over security in the region, as authorities continue efforts to trace the attackers and determine the circumstances surrounding the targeted shooting of the AAP leader.
