UN General Assembly President Philemon Yang Arrives in India for Four-Day Diplomatic Visit
President of the 79th UN General Assembly session, Philemon Yang, has arrived in India on a four-day official visit. The former Cameroon Prime Minister will hold talks with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on major multilateral and regional issues and will also meet President Droupadi Murmu during his diplomatic engagements.
Philemon Yang, who previously served as the Prime Minister of Cameroon, assumed office as President of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly on September 10 last year. During his presidency, the United Nations adopted “A Pact for the Future,” a major vision document focused on advancing multilateral solutions for a better tomorrow.
During his visit to India, Mr. Yang will hold discussions with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on several important multilateral and regional matters of mutual interest. The talks are expected to focus on cooperation within the framework of the United Nations and evolving global challenges requiring coordinated international responses.
Mr. Yang is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on President Droupadi Murmu during his stay in the country. In addition to his engagements in the national capital, the President of the UN General Assembly will visit Bengaluru as part of his four-day itinerary.
The visit assumes significance at a time when global institutions are increasingly focusing on strengthening multilateral cooperation and shaping long-term international strategies through collective dialogue and diplomatic engagement.
