Global Energy Alliance Appoints Tanya Singhal as Vice President for India, Strengthening Leadership in Clean Energy Transition
The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet has appointed Tanya Singhal as Vice President for India, strengthening its leadership in clean energy transition. The move comes as the Alliance expands work in grid modernization, battery storage, and renewable integration across India. Singhal’s experience in scaling SolarArise and mobilizing large-scale investment is expected to accelerate energy access, job creation, and emission reduction efforts nationwide.
The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet has announced the appointment of Tanya Singhal as Vice President for India, marking a significant leadership expansion as the organization intensifies its efforts to transform the country’s energy landscape. Singhal, a prominent renewable energy entrepreneur and climate technology leader, assumes the role at a critical juncture as the Alliance accelerates initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s power systems and expanding access to reliable and affordable clean energy.
Her appointment coincides with the Global Energy Alliance completing three years of operations in India, during which it has focused on advancing modern and resilient energy infrastructure through battery storage solutions, grid digitalization, and distributed renewable energy systems. These efforts are also designed to generate employment opportunities and stimulate broader economic growth.
Tanya Singhal is the co-founder of SolarArise, a large-scale grid-connected solar energy platform she established and led for eight years. During her leadership, she successfully raised and deployed more than ₹2,000 crores in capital, supported by the European Investment Bank’s GEEREF fund and Kotak Mahindra’s Singapore-based infrastructure fund. This investment facilitated the development of a 500 MWp portfolio of utility-scale solar assets across multiple Indian states. She later oversaw a landmark exit through the sale of the company to an Infrastructure Investment Trust listed on the London Stock Exchange, positioning SolarArise among the first Indian renewable energy platforms to achieve such a listing. Singhal is an alumna of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and previously worked as a strategy consultant at Boston Consulting Group.
Welcoming her appointment, Woochong Um, Chief Executive Officer of the Global Energy Alliance, stated that Singhal has demonstrated the ability to build and scale clean energy platforms in one of the world’s most dynamic energy markets. He emphasized India’s critical role in shaping the global energy transition and highlighted the importance of her leadership in advancing grid modernization, investment mobilization, and system resilience.
Singhal has also collaborated closely with India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and is widely recognized as a key voice in climate and energy policy discussions at national and international platforms.
Commenting on her new role, Singhal said that the energy transition is fundamentally about ensuring energy sovereignty through 24-hour reliable clean power. She noted that this requires modernized grids, large-scale battery storage, and integration of distributed renewable energy systems, aligning directly with the Global Energy Alliance’s mission.
In India, the Global Energy Alliance currently supports a portfolio of 26 projects, both deployed and under development, projected to mobilize approximately $1 billion in financing. These initiatives are expected to enhance energy access for 49 million people, support 2.2 million jobs and livelihoods, and reduce 166 million tons of carbon emissions. In February 2026, the Alliance further strengthened its commitment by launching the India Grids of the Future Accelerator with an initial investment of $25 million to advance grid modernization and renewable energy integration.
The appointment of Tanya Singhal underscores a strategic push to accelerate India’s clean energy transformation, reinforcing the country’s position as a global leader in sustainable power systems.
