India’s Seafood Exports Surge with Sustained Growth Over Eleven Years
India’s seafood exports have doubled from over ₹30,000 crore in 2013-14 to ₹62,000 crore in 2024-25, growing at 7% annually. The fisheries sector now plays a vital role in food security, employment, export earnings, and sustainable livelihoods across 130 global markets.
The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying said that the marine product exports have more than doubled during the period, rising from over 30 thousand crore rupees in 2013-14 to over 62 thousand crore rupees in 2024-25. This sharp increase reflects a consistent upward trajectory supported by expanding global demand and strategic sectoral development.
The Ministry said India’s seafood exports span a wide and diversified basket, with over 350 varieties of products shipped to nearly 130 global markets. This extensive reach underscores the sector’s growing international footprint and its ability to cater to diverse consumer preferences across regions.
It further stated that India’s fisheries sector has emerged as a major contributor to food security, employment, export earnings and sustainable livelihoods, reinforcing its critical role within the national economy and rural development framework.
