NCW and Truecaller Launch "TrueCyberSakhi" to Fortify Women’s Digital Safety Across India
The National Commission for Women and Truecaller have launched the "TrueCyberSakhi: Digital Safety Toolkit" at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan to protect women from digital risks like phishing and harassment. This nationwide initiative features a verified NCW 24x7 helpline on Truecaller’s Government Directory Service, ensuring secure access to institutional redressal and empowering women’s digital participation.
Central to this initiative is the launch of "TrueCyberSakhi: A Digital Safety Toolkit, Created for Her," an interactive digital safety resource jointly developed by the NCW and Truecaller. This toolkit is engineered to promote informed and confident digital participation by equipping women and the general public with the practical knowledge essential for navigating online spaces safely. The resource features a comprehensive suite of interactive modules, including quizzes and self-assessment tools, paired with simplified explanations of critical digital safety concerns such as spam, phishing, impersonation, harassment, and financial fraud. Beyond theoretical knowledge, the toolkit provides actionable guidance, structured best practices, and practical do’s and don’ts to foster safer communication habits among users.
A critical component of the "TrueCyberSakhi" toolkit is its emphasis on the NCW’s 24x7 helpline, offering clear instructions on when and how women can seek institutional support and navigate redressal mechanisms in the event of digital harm. Furthering this mission of accessibility, Truecaller has officially verified the NCW 24x7 helpline number on its Government Directory Service (GDS). This technical integration enhances the trust, authenticity, and visibility of the official support channel, enabling citizens to identify the helpline with confidence. By reducing the risks associated with impersonation or fraud, this verification ensures that women across the country have timely access to support through an authenticated government contact point.
The initiative is further bolstered by a coordinated digital and social media awareness campaign aimed at amplifying key messages regarding responsible digital participation and the availability of redressal mechanisms. During the launch, Smt. Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, emphasized that the NCW is committed to ensuring women can participate safely and confidently in digital spaces, noting that this collaboration will reach women nationwide with practical guidance on responding to online threats. Mr. Rishit Jhunjhunwala, Chief Executive Officer of Truecaller, added that safety in digital communication is foundational to enabling women’s full participation in the digital economy, and that this partnership aims to make official support channels more visible and accessible.
The National Commission for Women, an autonomous statutory body established under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990, continues its mandate to protect and promote the rights of women through legal reforms and policy advice. Truecaller, a global leader in caller ID and spam blocking with over 350 million users in India and 450 million globally, reinforces this mission through its commitment to digital trust. Together, these organizations have initiated a transformative movement that not only addresses the immediate challenges of digital fraud and harassment but also secures the digital future for women through institutional strength and technological innovation.
