University of Design, Innovation & Technology Sets New Milestones by Establishing a University for Creators
The University of Design, Innovation and Technology (UDIT) is formally established in Gurugram through an Act of the Haryana State Legislature. Built on the 10-year legacy of IIAD, UDIT is India’s first university for creators, offering interdisciplinary programmes in Design, Technology, and Management to prepare students for the future of global innovation and industry.
Pro-Chancellor Dr. Jitin Chadha emphasized that UDIT is not simply growing an institution but reimagining what a creator’s education can look like, stating that the most consequential people of this century will be those who move between disciplines, making things with both hands and mind to lead with purpose. He noted that graduates are expected to leave with a body of work and the disposition to keep making things that matter. To achieve this, the university is anchored in an interdisciplinary approach across its three specialized schools. The School of Design comprises the departments of Fashion, Visual Communication, and Product & Interior Design, while the School of Management includes Fashion & Luxury Business Management and Technology Business Management. Simultaneously, the School of Technology offers B.Tech and M.Tech programmes in Computer Science, AI, and Design, ensuring a unified approach where multiple ways of thinking converge to shape well-rounded creators.
The academic framework is specifically designed to facilitate movement across disciplines, allowing learners to build a connected and expansive set of competencies over time. Professor Usha Nehru Patel, Pro-Vice Chancellor, highlighted that the studio is the core of UDIT where learning happens and critique sharpens ideas. She explained that the curriculum is organized around real challenges where students encounter problems first and then build the skills to solve them, distinguishing it as an education that prepares students to create what comes next rather than just preparing them for existing jobs. This curriculum responds to evolving industry contexts by integrating project-led modules and collaborative work supported by well-equipped labs and studios.
Led by a faculty that blends academic depth with professional experience, UDIT remains grounded in current practice while staying attentive to emerging shifts. As the university defines its academic contours, plans are underway to expand academic pathways, strengthen research, and build deeper partnerships with industry and international institutions. By expanding IIAD’s academic foundation to equip students to navigate and shape contemporary practice across design, technology, and management, UDIT positions itself among the leading institutions shaping the future of higher education in India, ensuring students create the products, companies, and solutions the world will need tomorrow.
