Chhattisgarh’s Rice Economy Gains Momentum as Paddy Prices Align with Federal Support Benchmarks

Paddy (Common) prices in Chhattisgarh are holding firm around the ₹2,369 MSP mark for the 2026-27 season. With over 141 lakh metric tonnes procured and a significant ₹10,000 crore payout scheduled under the Krishak Unnati Yojana, the state's agrarian economy shows strong resilience. Discover the latest market trends and government support initiatives in India’s rice bowl

The agricultural heartland of Chhattisgarh is witnessing a period of robust economic activity as Paddy (Common) prices across various districts hold steady, closely mirroring the Union Government’s Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹2,369 per quintal for the 2026-27 marketing season. Latest market intelligence reveals that while some rural pockets have seen fluctuations with prices touching ₹2,041, the overall trajectory remains upward, with several mandis recording transactions as high as ₹2,369.93. This price stability is a vital sign for the state, often referred to as India’s "rice bowl," where the livelihoods of millions of farmers are intricately tied to the procurement of this staple cereal.

The Vishnu Deo Sai administration has reinforced this market stability with a massive financial intervention under the flagship Krishak Unnati Yojana. In a landmark decision ahead of the festive season, the state cabinet recently approved a lump-sum disbursement of approximately ₹10,000 crore to bridge the gap between the central MSP and the state’s promised rate of ₹3,100 per quintal. This differential payment is set to reach over 25 lakh farmers in a single installment before the Holi festival, pushing the total financial support under the scheme to a staggering ₹35,000 crore over the last two years. This aggressive fiscal support has ensured that even as open-market arrivals vary, the farmer's net income remains protected from global price volatility.

On the ground, the logistics of the current procurement cycle have been monumental. The state has already facilitated the arrival and procurement of 141.04 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, maintaining a rigorous administrative framework to ensure transparency. From the implementation of biometric-based verification to the "Token Tunhar Hath" mobile application for slot booking, the government has integrated digital tools to streamline the experience for genuine growers. While technical challenges were reported early in the season, the recent extension of procurement deadlines and the active deployment of Integrated Command and Control Centers have helped mitigate bottlenecks and prevent the illegal recycling of paddy from neighboring regions.

As the state moves toward the final stages of the 2025-26 Kharif Marketing Year and looks ahead to the 2026-27 season, the emphasis has shifted toward long-term agrarian sustainability. The recently presented "Sankalp" Budget for 2026-27 further underscores this commitment, with massive allocations for free electricity to irrigation pumps and subsidies for crop diversification into pulses and oilseeds. By ensuring that paddy remains a profitable venture through a combination of high support prices and timely cash transfers, Chhattisgarh is not only securing its internal rural economy but also cementing its position as a critical contributor to the national food security pool.
