School Bus Destroyed in Fierce Fire in Pratapgarh; Driver Escapes Moments Before Vehicle Engulfed

A school bus in Pratapgarh’s Bhatni village was completely destroyed after a suspected short circuit triggered a massive fire on Monday morning. The driver escaped moments before the blaze engulfed the vehicle. Fire Brigade teams doused the flames, and authorities have begun investigating the cause.

A school bus parked in Bhatni village under Lalganj police station limits in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district went up in flames on Monday morning, moments before it was scheduled to begin its daily round of student pickups. The incident, which occurred as preparations were underway to leave the village with children on board, triggered panic among locals who watched the vehicle burn rapidly.

According to preliminary findings, the blaze is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit. Witnesses said the fire spread with alarming speed, giving the driver barely enough time to react. Realizing the imminent danger, he leapt out of the bus and escaped unharmed just before thick smoke and flames engulfed the vehicle.

The fire quickly intensified, and despite attempts by residents to control the flames, the bus was soon reduced to a charred shell. Fire Brigade personnel reached the spot and succeeded in bringing the situation under control, preventing the blaze from spreading to nearby structures.

Authorities have initiated further inquiry into the cause of the incident. While no injuries were reported, the complete loss of the vehicle and the narrow escape of the driver have raised concerns over routine safety checks and electrical maintenance practices for school transport in the region.
