“No more selling Bombardier in the United States!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. He did not specify how his administration would enforce a sales ban.
Trump accused Canada of blocking US banks and companies from operating in the country, describing the trade relationship as “unjust and unfair”. He also pointed to Canada’s earlier refusal to certify new US-made aircraft.
According to Trump, the US market accounts for more than half of Bombardier’s revenue. The company has thousands of aircraft operating with US airlines.
The latest warning is not the first time Trump has targeted the Canadian manufacturer. In January, he threatened to decertify Bombardier aircraft in the US and impose a 50% tariff on Canadian aircraft.
Those measures were not implemented. Bombardier’s aircraft remain certified in the US, and the company is currently exempt from US tariffs.
Trump’s latest warning came ahead of Canada’s planned retaliatory tariffs on US goods, due to take effect on Tuesday.
Last month, Trump imposed 50% tariffs on around $20 billion worth of Canadian products, including hockey sticks and cement. Canada is responding with tariffs ranging from 15% to 50% on selected US imports, including steel, aluminium and dairy products.
The trade dispute has also stalled negotiations between Ottawa and Washington.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney suspended talks last month, saying US demands had become unacceptable. He also accused Washington of introducing last-minute restrictions affecting Canada’s trade agreements with other countries.
The latest threat against Bombardier adds another point of tension to the widening US-Canada trade dispute, with the company’s access to the US market now facing renewed uncertainty.
