ChatGPT Learns Your Writing Style, Mimicking Favourite Phrases and Sign-Offs

ChatGPT’s new Writing Style feature can analyse emails, messages and files to recognise favourite phrases, sign-offs and capitalisation habits, allowing its future drafts to more closely match the user’s personal writing style.

ChatGPT is introducing a new feature designed to make its writing more closely match the individual style of its users by recognising their writing habits and reproducing them in future drafts.

According to a recent post from ChatGPT on X, the feature can recognise users’ favourite phrases, preferred ways of signing off and even their capitalisation quirks. These patterns can then be used to create copy that more closely mimics their usual writing style.

The feature allows users to work with ChatGPT across tools such as Gmail, Google Drive, Slack and SharePoint, while the large language model analyses their data and learns their writing patterns. It does this by examining their emails, messages and files and carrying those patterns into the content they write next.

To get started, users can access ChatGPT on the web or go to Settings, select Personalisation and then choose Writing Style. The changes will apply to all messages across ChatGPT on the web and mobile. The new feature is available on the web and for all paid plans with access to ChatGPT work.

AI tools can recognise writing habits by analysing elements such as vocabulary, tone and sentence structure. This enables large language models to build a profile of an individual’s writing style, helping AI-generated content sound more natural and personal.

These models analyse factors including word choice, tone, sentence structure and punctuation to identify patterns in the way users communicate. They also use natural language processing (NLP) to break down text into smaller components, including word choices, sentence structures and emotional tone.

The process helps identify a user’s unique linguistic fingerprint, a set of patterns that defines their personal writing style and tends to remain consistent across different types of communication.
