NITI Aayog Releases Comprehensive Policy Roadmap for School Education Reform in India
NITI Aayog has released a comprehensive Policy Report on School Education System in India, presenting a decade-long analysis of access, enrolment, infrastructure, equity, inclusion, and learning outcomes. The report outlines 13 major recommendations, 33 implementation pathways, and over 125 measurable indicators for nationwide education reform and quality enhancement.
The policy document lays out a detailed roadmap aimed at quality enhancement in school education through thirteen comprehensive recommendations. These include eight systemic recommendations and five academic recommendations designed to strengthen and reform the existing education framework across the country.
The report focuses on reforming school structure through composite schools and evidence-based rationalisation while also strengthening school infrastructure. It further centres on transforming pedagogy, assessment, and foundational learning, with a strong emphasis on holistic education and student wellbeing.
As part of its implementation framework, the report provides 33 implementation pathways structured across short-, medium-, and long-term horizons. These pathways clearly identify actors responsible at the Central, State, and local levels for executing the proposed reforms and ensuring accountability in implementation.
The report also introduces over 125 measurable Performance Success Indicators aimed at tracking progress and evaluating outcomes across multiple dimensions of the School Education System. These indicators are intended to create a structured mechanism for monitoring reforms and measuring their impact over time.
Adding practical depth to the policy roadmap, the report features short case studies of good practices implemented at the Central, State, and District levels from across the country. These examples are intended to highlight successful models and support evidence-based policy execution.
The release of the report marks a significant administrative and policy-level intervention by NITI Aayog towards strengthening India’s School Education System through structured reforms, measurable outcomes, and coordinated implementation mechanisms focused on quality enhancement, inclusion, and long-term educational transformation.
