Kansai Nerolac Transforms Temple Pathways Into Cooler Surfaces With Perma NoHeat, Delivering Up To 15°C Temperature Reduction
Kansai Nerolac Paints Limited has deployed its Perma NoHeat coating across temple pathways in Southern India, reducing surface temperatures by up to 15°C. The experiential activation enables barefoot devotees to directly feel enhanced comfort, redefining heat-reflective solutions through real-world application and public space innovation.
In a carefully designed on-ground activation, Kansai Nerolac applied its acrylic-based heat-reflective coating, Perma NoHeat, on temple pathways frequently used by barefoot devotees during peak daytime hours. The intervention resulted in recorded surface temperature reductions of up to 15°C, significantly improving walking comfort in areas exposed to intense heat.
Rather than relying on conventional demonstrations or technical explanation, the campaign was structured to allow direct human experience of the product’s performance. Visitors walking across treated pathways experienced an immediate and tangible reduction in surface heat, transforming an everyday discomfort into a noticeable improvement in comfort.
The initiative was conceptualised in collaboration with the creative agency Tribes, and built around the insight that product performance is most powerfully communicated through lived experience. The execution was planned in coordination with temple authorities to ensure uninterrupted religious activity, while identifying high-traffic zones where the impact would be most perceptible.
At its core, the campaign positioned Perma NoHeat beyond its conventional usage on terraces and exterior walls, presenting it as a functional solution for shared public spaces affected by rising surface temperatures. The activation aligned with increasing concerns around heat intensity in urban and semi-urban environments, where heatwaves and elevated ground temperatures have become a recurring challenge.
Kansai Nerolac extended the initiative into digital storytelling through a film documenting the application process, temperature changes, and real-time public reactions. The narrative focused on authentic human response rather than technical specifications, reinforcing the experiential nature of the intervention.
Ramkrishna Naik, Chief Marketing Officer of Kansai Nerolac Paints Limited, stated that rising summer temperatures have made barefoot walking on heated surfaces increasingly difficult, particularly in temple environments. He emphasized that the initiative was designed not as a staged demonstration but as a real-world validation of Perma NoHeat’s effectiveness in addressing everyday discomfort.
Gour Gupta, Chairman of Tribes, stated that the objective was to avoid explanation and instead allow people to directly experience the benefit. He added that by integrating the product into pathways traversed by large numbers of devotees, the solution became self-evident through lived interaction rather than communication.
Kansai Nerolac Paints Limited, in its 106th year of operations, continues to position itself at the forefront of paint innovation with a diverse portfolio spanning decorative and industrial coatings. The company operates eight manufacturing facilities across India and maintains a nationwide distribution network supporting homes, institutions, and industrial sectors.
The Perma NoHeat initiative underscores a strategic shift toward experiential innovation, reinforcing Kansai Nerolac’s focus on addressing environmental challenges through practical, scalable, and visibly effective product applications.
