Andaman Divers Create History with Guinness World Record for Largest Underwater Indian Flag Display
Andaman divers set a Guinness World Record at Radhanagar Beach on May 2, 2026, deploying a 2,400-square-meter Indian flag underwater at 10:35 a.m. The record, certified by Rishi Nath, was achieved by Indian Navy, Coast Guard, police, and forest teams in presence of Lt Governor D K Joshi and Chief Secretary Chandra Bhushan Kumar, highlighting marine tourism potential.
A massive 2,400-square-meter Indian national flag was deployed beneath the sea, marking a visually striking and technically complex feat executed with precision and teamwork. The achievement was officially certified on-site by Guinness World Records adjudicator Rishi Nath.
The event was witnessed by senior dignitaries, including Lieutenant Governor D. K. Joshi, who commended the exceptional coordination, discipline, and dedication of all participating teams. Chief Secretary Chandra Bhushan Kumar was also present during the certification and celebration of the record-breaking effort.
The initiative also highlighted the Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ rich marine biodiversity, including its pristine coral reefs and diverse marine life. Officials emphasized that such global recognition strengthens the islands’ reputation as a premier international diving destination.
In continuation of the celebrations, authorities have also planned a separate underwater event featuring the formation of the tallest human stack underwater on the following day, further showcasing the region’s capabilities in marine adventure and coordinated underwater activities.
The record-setting event stands as a powerful demonstration of unity, precision, and the growing global prominence of India’s underwater adventure and marine tourism sector.
