A devastating cruise accident occurred at Bargi Dam in Jabalpur, where a passenger vessel capsized, resulting in the death of nine people. Twenty-three individuals were successfully rescued, while a total of twenty-nine tourists were on board at the time of the incident. The tragedy prompted an immediate large-scale emergency response from local authorities.
Following the incident, police and administrative teams reached the site without delay. Search and rescue operations were launched on a war footing as teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local police coordinated efforts to locate missing passengers and ensure the safety of survivors.
The accident site witnessed intensive rescue operations throughout the day as emergency personnel combed the waters of Bargi Dam in an effort to trace any remaining victims. Authorities confirmed that nine fatalities occurred in the incident, while twenty-three people were pulled out alive.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident. He stated that the incident involving the capsizing of the boat was extremely unfortunate and extended his condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased. The Prime Minister also acknowledged the pain of those affected and conveyed his sympathy to all victims’ families.
In an official announcement from the Prime Minister’s Office, compensation measures were declared. The families of the deceased will receive financial assistance of ₹200,000 each, while those injured in the accident will be provided ₹50,000 as relief support.
