Fatal Vigilante Strike: Ghaziabad Police Neutralize Assailants of 'Ex-Muslim' YouTuber
Ghaziabad police have killed suspects Zeeshan and Gulfam in separate encounters following the brutal stabbing of ex-Muslim YouTuber Saleem Wastik. The targeted attack, captured on CCTV, left Wastik in critical condition at GTB Hospital, sparking a swift "zero-tolerance" response from the Yogi Adityanath administration against religious vigilantism
The initial assault, captured on chilling CCTV footage that has since gone viral, occurred last Friday morning in Wastik’s office-cum-residence in Ali Garden, Loni. The four-minute clip depicts Wastik sitting on a sofa, distracted by his phone, as two men in kurta-pyjamas and helmets barge through a glass door. The assailants, who arrived on a motorcycle with an obscured registration plate, launched a frenzied attack with a sharp-edged weapon. Witnesses and police reports indicate the attackers deliberately targeted Wastik’s throat while shouting religious slogans, accusing him of "insulting the Prophet." The brutal scene left the floor covered in blood as family members rushed in, forcing the attackers to flee
The state’s response was immediate and uncompromising. Following the registration of an FIR by Wastik’s son, Usman, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued a stern directive to 10 special police teams, stating that "those who play with law and order will not be spared." The first suspect, Zeeshan, was intercepted by the SWAT Crime Branch in Loni on Sunday night. During an exchange of fire that injured two head constables, Zeeshan was fatally wounded and later succumbed at a hospital. His brother and accomplice, Gulfam, met a similar fate two days later in the Vasundhara area after his motorcycle skidded during a high-speed chase, leading to a final shootout with the SWAT team
Saleem Wastik’s public renunciation of Islam and his vocal criticism of fundamentalist practices on his two YouTube channels—boasting tens of thousands of subscribers—had reportedly made him a target for extremist elements. While the police are still investigating whether the brothers acted independently or as part of a larger conspiracy involving local political or religious figures named in the FIR, the incident has served as a grim reminder of the risks faced by digital dissenters. For now, the administrative focus remains on preventing further communal flare-ups, with heavy police deployment continuing in the Loni region to ensure stability in the wake of the extrajudicial conclusions
