Wedding Celebration Turns Violent in Pratapgarh Over DJ Dispute; Four Injured

Four people, including a DJ operator, were injured in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, after a violent brawl erupted at a wedding. The dispute over shutting down the music system led to a clash in the Dilippur police station area. Authorities have registered a case and are currently identifying the suspects involved in the violence.

PRATAPGARH, UTTAR PRADESH – What was intended to be a night of festive celebration in Pratapgarh descended into chaos and violence late Thursday evening, as a dispute over music at a wedding procession escalated into a full-scale brawl. The confrontation, which broke out within the jurisdiction of the Dilippur Police Station, left four individuals seriously injured and required immediate intervention from local law enforcement to restore order.

The altercation reportedly began during the Baarat (wedding procession) when an attempt was made to silence the DJ system. This directive triggered a heated argument between two factions of guests, which rapidly spiraled from verbal abuse to physical assault. Witnesses described a scene of total disorder as the groups clashed, using blunt objects and physical force. Among the four people wounded in the melee was the DJ operator, who became a central target during the flare-up. The injured were rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment, where they are currently being monitored for their recovery.

Upon receiving distress calls from the venue, a contingent from the Dilippur Police Station arrived at the scene to disperse the crowd and secure the area. Preliminary investigations suggest that the violence was a spontaneous reaction to the disagreement over the music, though police are examining whether any underlying rivalries contributed to the intensity of the fight. Officers have remained on-site to conduct a thorough forensic sweep and record statements from eye-witnesses and the families involved in the ceremony.

Legal proceedings have been formally initiated, with the police registering a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) concerning voluntary hurt and rioting. Authorities have confirmed that they are in the process of identifying the primary instigators through available mobile footage and witness accounts. While no arrests have been finalized as of Friday morning, the police have assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty of disrupting the public peace and causing injury.

This incident underscores a troubling trend of celebratory violence in the region, where trivial disagreements during social functions often lead to severe physical consequences. The administrative authorities are now facing renewed pressure to strictly enforce noise and conduct regulations during the ongoing wedding season. As the investigation continues, the local community remains on edge, reflecting on how a moment of joy was so abruptly overshadowed by an avoidable outbreak of hostility.
