Varanasi Police Turn a Child’s Wish Into Reality, Appoint 10-Year-Old Cancer Patient as Station Officer for a Day

Varanasi Police fulfilled the wish of a 10-year-old cancer patient by appointing him Station House Officer for a day. The compassionate initiative by the Varanasi Commissionerate brought joy to the child and highlighted the humane face of policing in Uttar Pradesh.

Varanasi’s police force offered a powerful reminder of compassion behind the uniform after fulfilling the heartfelt wish of a 10-year-old cancer patient by placing him in charge of a police station for a day. The initiative, carried out by the Varanasi Commissionerate Police, transformed a simple dream into a deeply meaningful experience for the young boy, Suryaansh.

According to officials, Suryaansh, who is undergoing treatment for cancer, had expressed a desire to see how the police function and to experience the responsibility of an officer. Responding to this wish, the Varanasi police organized a special program in which the child was ceremonially made the Station House Officer (SHO) for a day. Dressed in police attire and seated at the officer’s desk, Suryaansh was briefed about basic police duties and was welcomed with full respect by the station staff.

Police officials said the objective of the initiative was not symbolic alone but rooted in empathy and social responsibility. The child was introduced to daily administrative processes, greeted personnel, and observed how law and order is managed at the local level. Officers interacted with him warmly, ensuring the experience remained joyful and memorable.

The gesture brought visible happiness to the child and his family, while also sending a broader message about the human side of policing. Senior officials noted that such efforts help bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community, especially by inspiring trust and emotional connection.
