Gujarat’s Cities Lead India’s Green Transition, Says Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel says the state’s cities are leading efforts to tackle climate change through green development, sustainable transport and strong waste management systems. He highlights improved urban living standards and Gujarat’s growing role as a model for sustainable urban governance.
Addressing the issue, Patel noted that cities and major urban hubs in Gujarat have taken decisive steps to expand green spaces, promote environmentally responsible development and strengthen green transportation systems. These measures, he said, reflect a coordinated urban strategy aimed at reducing environmental stress while supporting long-term sustainability.
The Chief Minister also underscored the strong performance of Gujarat’s cities in solid waste management and national cleanliness assessments, stating that consistent progress in these areas has positioned the state as a benchmark for urban governance. According to Patel, effective waste segregation, improved sanitation systems and citizen participation have played a crucial role in achieving these outcomes.
He emphasized that the state’s environmental initiatives extend beyond conservation goals. The focus on green infrastructure and urban cleanliness, Patel said, has directly contributed to improving the quality of life for residents, creating healthier living environments and more resilient cities capable of adapting to future climate-related challenges.
Patel added that Gujarat’s approach demonstrates how urban planning and environmental responsibility can work together, ensuring that economic growth does not come at the cost of ecological balance. The state government, he said, remains committed to strengthening policies that support sustainable urban development.
The Chief Minister’s remarks underscore the growing role of cities in addressing climate change and reaffirm Gujarat’s position as a leading example of how urban India can align development with environmental stewardship for lasting impact.
