Gold Worth ₹50 Lakh Reported Stolen From Meerut Fruit Trader’s Home
A fruit trader in Meerut reported a theft of 30 tolas of gold worth nearly ₹50 lakh from his home in the Kotwali area. The jewellery, kept in a wardrobe after a recent family wedding, went missing, prompting police to register a case and launch a detailed investigation into the incident.
According to officials, the stolen jewellery had been kept securely inside a household wardrobe. The family had recently hosted the wedding of the trader’s daughter, who had been staying at the home following the ceremony. The theft reportedly came to light when family members checked the almirah and found the valuables missing.
Police said a formal complaint has been registered, and a probe is underway to determine how the intruders gained access to the house and whether the crime involved insiders familiar with the family’s routine. Officers are examining the crime scene, reviewing potential CCTV footage in the vicinity, and questioning individuals who may have had knowledge of the jewellery’s location.
The incident has underscored growing concerns about residential security in densely populated areas of Meerut, especially during and after family events when valuable items are often stored at home. Authorities have urged residents to secure their belongings and report any suspicious activity promptly as the investigation continues.
