Lawyers’ Security March Reaches Lucknow, Concludes After Assurance of Meeting With Chief Minister

A lawyers’ security march that began in Prayagraj reached Lucknow, where advocates demanded an Advocate Protection Act and other safeguards. The march concluded after officials assured participants of a meeting with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister to address their concerns.

A march demanding stronger safety measures for lawyers reached the state capital of Lucknow on Monday, drawing attention to long-standing concerns within the legal community. The procession, which began in Prayagraj, saw advocates walking for several days to press for the implementation of an Advocate Protection Act and other related safeguards.

Participants in the march said they undertook the journey to highlight what they describe as increasing threats and vulnerability faced by lawyers across Uttar Pradesh. As the group entered Lucknow, representatives reiterated their demand for a dedicated legal framework ensuring physical safety, protection during professional duties, and swift action in cases of assault or intimidation.

Administrative officials met the delegation upon their arrival, after which advocates were assured that they would be granted a meeting with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to present their charter of demands. Following this commitment from the government, organizers announced the formal conclusion of the march.

The culmination of the rally underscores growing calls within the legal fraternity for comprehensive protective legislation, a matter that has repeatedly surfaced in several states. Advocates say the government’s assurance marks a significant step toward addressing their concerns, though they await concrete action in the days ahead.
