617 Cases of Illicit Liquor Seized from Truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur; Estimated Value ₹50 Lakh
A major excise operation in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, led to the seizure of 617 cases of illicit liquor worth around ₹50 lakh from a truck in Nasirpur under Sadar Kotwali. Authorities have launched legal action and begun investigating the supply chain behind the illegal consignment.
According to authorities, the operation was carried out following specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of a suspicious vehicle. A team from the Excise Department intercepted the truck and, upon inspection, uncovered the concealed liquor cartons stacked inside. Officials stated that the consignment was being transported without valid permits, in violation of state excise laws.
The department has initiated legal proceedings against the accused individuals linked to the trafficking attempt. Further investigation is underway to determine the source of the liquor, its intended destination, and whether the operation is tied to a larger supply network active in the region.
The seizure marks a significant action in the district’s ongoing efforts to curb the circulation of illegal alcohol, a persistent problem that poses risks to public health and contributes to unregulated black-market trade. Authorities reiterated their commitment to intensifying surveillance and enforcement measures in the coming weeks.
