Sudhanshu Trivedi Rebuts Opposition Criticism Over Rajnath Singh’s Remarks on Nehru and Babri Dispute

BJP spokesperson Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi strongly defended Defence Minister Rajnath Singh after his remarks on Jawaharlal Nehru and the Babri dispute sparked Opposition criticism. Trivedi accused Congress leaders of ignoring their own historical record and said the controversy reflected the party’s disconnect from documented facts.

Bharatiya Janata Party national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi on Tuesday issued a sharp rebuttal to the Opposition after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s recent comments referencing former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and the Babri Masjid dispute triggered political pushback. Speaking to the media, Trivedi accused Congress leaders of reacting without understanding their own party’s historical record and said the controversy reflected the Opposition’s growing disconnect from documented facts.

Trivedi argued that the Congress leadership had “forgotten the legacy and actions” of its own stalwarts, including Nehru, whose decisions, he said, had directly shaped the trajectory of the Ayodhya dispute. He maintained that Rajnath Singh’s statement was grounded in historical events and insisted that the Defence Minister had merely reiterated facts that had long been part of the public domain. According to Trivedi, the Congress’s objections were less about accuracy and more about political discomfort.

The BJP spokesperson further alleged that members of the Nehru–Gandhi family had become unfamiliar even with key episodes involving their own predecessors, resulting in what he described as repeated mischaracterisations of historical developments. He added that the Opposition’s criticism lacked substance and suggested that the party’s leadership was unwilling to confront aspects of its past that are inconvenient in current political debates.

Trivedi’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions, with several Congress leaders accusing Rajnath Singh of attempting to reinterpret history for electoral advantage. The BJP, however, maintains that the minister’s comments were neither provocative nor speculative, but an attempt to place long-standing facts in context.
