UP Congress Chief Alleges Intimidation of BLOs During Voter Verification Drive in Moradabad
Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai, during a visit to Moradabad, alleged that BLOs are being pressured and harassed during the ongoing voter verification process. Accusing the Election Commission of acting under the BJP government’s influence, Rai warned that such intimidation threatens electoral transparency and public trust.
Rai asserted that officials responsible for ground-level electoral duties were working under “fear and coercion,” allegedly directed to influence processes tied to the Summary Revision of the electoral rolls. He further charged that the Election Commission, which is constitutionally mandated to function independently, had “reduced itself to a puppet of the BJP government,” thereby enabling undue interference in routine electoral administration.
According to Rai, the reported treatment of BLOs raises deeper concerns about fairness and transparency in the buildup to the next electoral cycle. He argued that targeting low-level polling officials creates a cascading effect that damages public trust and undermines the democratic framework. While his allegations have heightened political tensions in the district, no official response has yet been issued by the Election Commission or local authorities regarding the claims.
The remarks come at a time when voter verification and roll revision efforts are underway across the state, making the accusations particularly significant. As political parties intensify their preparations, the integrity of electoral processes remains central to the democratic discourse. Rai’s allegations, if investigated thoroughly, could have wider implications for administrative accountability and public faith in election-related institutions.
