Plumber Sunil Dies After Exposure to Toxic Sewer Gas at Maharaja Agrasen University Campus; Family Refuses Cremation, Demands ₹1 Crore Compensation and Job for Widow
A plumber, Sunil, died after exposure to toxic sewer gas during a cleaning operation at Maharaja Agrasen University campus in Bahadurgarh. His family has refused cremation, demanding ₹1 crore compensation and a job for his wife. An FIR has been filed against eight accused under Section 106 BNS, with police investigating the alleged negligence and safety lapses.
According to information, three days earlier, during a sewer cleaning operation within the university campus, five workers were exposed to poisonous gas. Sunil, who was employed as a plumber at Maharaja Agrasen Hospital, suffered critical injuries after inhaling the toxic fumes and later succumbed to his condition.
The family has alleged that Sunil was forcibly made to enter the sewer tank even on his day off. They further claim that the workers were not provided with any safety equipment during the cleaning operation. They also accused the hospital management of failing to extend any assistance to the family after the incident.
Following the incident, anger has spread among the family members and local residents, who have demanded strict action against those responsible. The family has refused to perform the last rites and is demanding ₹1 crore in compensation along with a government job for the deceased’s wife. They have stated that the cremation will not take place until written assurance is given by the university and hospital authorities.
An FIR has been registered at Sadar Police Station against eight individuals, including officials associated with Maharaja Agrasen Hospital, under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, the hospital administration has remained silent on the issue.
Local residents, including Jayveer and Pradeep Dalal, have also expressed strong anger and are demanding strict punishment for those found responsible.
The incident has intensified concerns over workplace safety and alleged negligence in hazardous cleaning operations, placing both institutional accountability and enforcement practices under scrutiny.
