Hardik Pandya Fined and Penalised After Code of Conduct Breach in Mumbai Indians’ Defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders
Hardik Pandya, captain of Mumbai Indians, has been fined 10 percent of his match fee and given one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct after abusing cricket equipment during a match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. The incident occurred in the 10th over when he struck the stumps with force. He admitted the offence under Article 2.2 and accepted the match referee’s sanction. Kolkata Knight Riders won by four wickets and strengthened their playoff hopes by rising to sixth place, while Mumbai Indians remained ninth after a poor season with only four wins from 13 matches and elimination from playoff contention.
The incident occurred during the 10th over of the match at Eden Gardens on Wednesday, where Pandya was found guilty of “abuse of cricket equipment.” While walking back to his run-up, he struck the stumps with force, dislodging the bails.
The league confirmed that Pandya accepted the charge under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct and agreed to the sanction imposed by the match referee. The disciplinary action included both the financial penalty and the demerit point.
The result further strengthened Kolkata Knight Riders’ position in the competition, as they kept their playoff hopes alive by climbing to sixth place on the points table. In contrast, Mumbai Indians continued to struggle, remaining in ninth position.
The five-time champions have endured a difficult campaign, managing only four wins from 13 matches. With their playoff hopes already extinguished, the defeat added to a disappointing season for the franchise.
The disciplinary ruling and the match result together underscored a challenging phase for Mumbai Indians, as both on-field performance and conduct came under scrutiny in a crucial stage of the tournament.
