During the interaction, Giorgia Meloni was heard remarking, “Prime Minister Modi brought us a gift. It is Melody,” as she displayed the pack of Melody chocolates received from the Indian leader. The Italian Prime Minister later shared the moment publicly, captioning the clip with a brief message: “Thank you for the gift,” which quickly gained traction across social media platforms.
The exchange occurred on the sidelines of Prime Minister Modi’s official visit to Italy, where both leaders are expected to engage in discussions aimed at deepening cooperation between India and Italy under the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029. The framework prioritizes expanded collaboration across trade, investment, defence, clean energy, innovation, science and technology, and cultural exchange.
Economic ties between the two nations continue to show significant growth momentum. In 2025, bilateral trade reached USD 16.77 billion. Italy’s cumulative foreign direct investment in India stood at USD 3.66 billion between April 2000 and September 2025, reflecting sustained economic engagement between the two countries.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Rome marks the final leg of his five-nation diplomatic tour, undertaken following invitations extended by international partners. The tour included stops in the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Norway, before concluding in Italy.
