Speeding Car Hit-and-Run Claims Two Friends Returning from IPL Match in Northeast Delhi; Separate Road Tragedy Kills Two Cousins in Ashok Road Incident
Two separate fatal road accidents in Delhi claimed the lives of four individuals returning from IPL matches. In Northeast Delhi’s Khajuri Khas Flyover area, two friends died after a speeding car hit their motorcycle. In another incident on Ashok Road, two cousins were killed in a suspected hit-and-run case. Police investigations and CCTV analysis are underway in both cases.
According to police, the first accident occurred near the jurisdiction of Khajuri Khas Flyover in Northeast Delhi late at night. The victims, identified as Hemat Tiwari and Rohit, also known as Sonu, were riding a motorcycle when a speeding car reportedly hit them soon after they descended from the flyover. The force of the impact was severe, and both riders died on the spot.
Police officials reached the location immediately after receiving information about the incident. The bodies were shifted for post-mortem examination, and initial assessment indicates a suspected hit-and-run case. A forensic team conducted an examination of the site, and CCTV footage from nearby cameras is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
In a separate incident on April 28, two individuals lost their lives in a road accident on Ashok Road in Delhi. The deceased, identified as Yagya Bhatia, a 20-year-old Bachelor of Science student, and Abhav Bhatia, a 14-year-old school student, were cousins and were returning home after watching an IPL match.
At approximately 10:30 PM, Abhav was reportedly speaking to his father over the phone, informing him that they would reach home within half an hour. The call was ongoing when the fatal accident occurred, cutting short their journey home in an instant.
Police sources stated that preliminary investigations suggest another hit-and-run case. The two individuals were found unconscious on the road and were rushed to a hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival. The District Crime Team was called to the scene, and a detailed forensic examination of the accident site was carried out. The bodies were subsequently transferred to the RML mortuary.
Authorities confirmed that a case has been registered under the relevant legal provisions based on the statement recorded. Investigations are continuing to identify and trace the vehicle involved, with CCTV analysis forming a key part of the probe in both incidents.
These consecutive fatal road accidents in Delhi, both linked to post-match travel, have intensified concerns over speeding, reckless driving, and hit-and-run incidents on city roads, highlighting the urgent need for stricter enforcement and road safety measures.
