Government Launches ‘Janani’ QR-Based Digital Health Platform to Strengthen Maternal and Child Healthcare Monitoring

The government has launched ‘Janani’, a QR-based digital health platform designed to strengthen maternal and child healthcare monitoring across India. The upgraded RCH system enables digital health records, high-risk pregnancy alerts, biometric verification, immunisation tracking, and integrated healthcare services for over 30 lakh registered pregnant women.

The government has launched ‘Janani (Journey of Integrated Care for Antepartum, Natal and Infant)’, a QR-based digital health platform aimed at strengthening the monitoring and tracking of maternal and child healthcare services. The announcement was made in an official statement issued on Thursday.

According to the government, the platform will digitally secure and systematically record women’s health records throughout their reproductive phase. It will cover services including antenatal care, delivery preparedness, childbirth, postnatal care, newborn care, home-based newborn and young child care, and family planning.

The new system has been developed as an upgraded version of the existing Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) portal. It will create a long-term health record by securely maintaining critical healthcare records throughout the continuum of care. The government stated that the platform will help ensure continuous monitoring, timely intervention, and improved healthcare services at every stage.

One of the key features of the platform is the QR-based digital maternal and child health card, which will enable easy access and usability of health records from anywhere. The platform also includes facilities such as automated alerts for high-risk pregnancies, real-time dashboards, and the generation of line listings for critical cases, making timely monitoring and intervention easier.

‘Janani’ has also been integrated with national platforms such as U-WIN and Poshan, enabling easier data sharing and beneficiary tracking across multiple schemes. The platform allows beneficiary registration through unique identification methods including ABHA, Aadhaar using OTP and biometric authentication, and mobile numbers. It also provides a nationwide record search facility.

The new system is expected to ensure continuity of healthcare services for migrant populations while preventing duplicate record entries. In addition, self-registration facilities have been introduced through web and mobile platforms, allowing individuals to play an active role in managing their healthcare.

The statement said that the ‘Janani’ platform will also support the timely scheduling and monitoring of pregnancy check-ups and immunisation. Alerts and reminders for essential healthcare services will be issued to ensure that no critical healthcare stage is missed. Along with this, the platform will provide digital maternal and child health cards, information about nearby healthcare centres, probable delivery sites, and guidance related to health education and nutrition.

So far, more than 30 lakh pregnant women have been registered on the platform, over 30 lakh maternal and child health cards have been issued, and more than 1 lakh biometric verifications have been completed. The government said the initiative marks a major step towards digitally integrated maternal and child healthcare management across the country. (Input from agency)
