What began as another high-profile internet stunt by YouTube sensation MrBeast rapidly escalated into one of the most controversial social media moments of the week, sparking internal criticism at X and igniting debate across multiple online platforms.

The controversy erupted after MrBeast posted an unusual challenge on X, promising one million dollars for a post that received exactly one like. The concept appeared nearly impossible from the outset. Within hours, the post had gone viral, attracting more than 55 million views and triggering widespread activity as users attempted to manipulate the engagement dynamics surrounding the challenge.

As the post spread rapidly across the platform, frustration reportedly surfaced among employees at X. According to reports, several staff members publicly criticised the creator, accusing him of exploiting the platform for engagement farming. Nate Esparza from X’s advertising division allegedly referred to the YouTuber as “Mr. Engagement Farm,” while Nikita Bier, the company’s head of product, posted a strongly worded reaction condemning the stunt.

Bier later deleted the post and replaced it with an image of a boar, a move that intensified online speculation and added another layer to the growing controversy. The backlash itself quickly became part of the viral spectacle, with screenshots and reactions circulating widely across social media platforms.

The controversy comes during an already turbulent period for the creator. Outside social media, MrBeast is currently involved in a major legal dispute connected to his upcoming show Beast Games. According to reports, his company has filed a USD 5 million lawsuit against a firm identified as MHQ, alleging that contractual obligations linked to the production were not fulfilled.

Despite mounting criticism, MrBeast remains one of the most influential digital creators globally. In a recent interview with TIME, he rejected claims that his content revolves solely around financial giveaways. He highlighted initiatives including Team Trees, ocean cleanup campaigns and projects aimed at funding clean drinking water systems worldwide, stating that his broader mission is to create lasting global impact.

Whether viewed as a masterstroke in viral marketing, an example of internet excess or a reflection of the growing obsession with online engagement, the one-like challenge once again demonstrated MrBeast’s ability to capture the attention of millions and dominate global digital conversation within hours.
