Saayoni Ghosh Accepts Electoral Verdict After BJP Defeats TMC in West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026
Saayoni Ghosh accepts the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 verdict after BJP defeats TMC, reaffirming her commitment to public service, Mamata Banerjee, and democratic values while reflecting on her journey from Bengali cinema to national politics.
Taking to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Ghosh issued a detailed statement expressing her acceptance of the electoral mandate. She stated that she “humbly accepts” the decision of the people of West Bengal in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party, while extending gratitude to the citizens who supported her party during the campaign.
Before entering politics, Ghosh had established a strong presence in the Bengali entertainment industry. Her career began with the telefilm Ichhe Dana, followed by a brief role in Notobor Notout in 2010. She gradually became a recognizable face through projects such as Shotru, directed by Raj Chakraborty, and the television serial Proloy Asche, where she portrayed a journalist.
Her filmography expanded over the years to include titles such as Kanamachi, Antaraal, Ekla Cholo, Amar Sahor, Bitnoon, Babar Naam Gandhiji, Meghnad Badh Rahasya, Byomkesh O Chiriyakhana, Aparajito, Dracula Sir, and Rajkahini. This body of work ensured sustained public visibility prior to her transition into politics.
Ghosh formally entered the political arena in 2021 when she joined the All India Trinamool Congress. In the same year, she contested the Assembly elections from Asansol South but was defeated by Agnimitra Paul of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Despite the loss, her political rise continued. By June 2021, she was appointed president of the party’s youth wing. Her trajectory shifted significantly during the 2024 general elections when she contested from Jadavpur and secured victory, marking her emergence as a Member of Parliament.
Following the 2026 electoral setback, Ghosh reaffirmed her commitment to public service and party leadership. In her statement, she emphasized her dedication to serving the Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency and expressed unwavering support for Mamata Banerjee. She asserted her resolve to continue standing alongside her leader in safeguarding democratic values and national unity.
Ghosh further alleged that her party had faced multiple challenges during the campaign, including pressure from central agencies, financial constraints, media scrutiny, arrests, and legal cases. Despite these claims, she maintained that the party would persist in its efforts to uphold the rights of the people of West Bengal and the country.
She concluded her message with a firm declaration of continued political engagement and determination, signaling that the electoral defeat would not diminish the party’s resolve. The statement underscores both acceptance of democratic outcomes and a commitment to sustained political opposition, marking a significant moment in her evolving political journey.
