Helmed by Dr. Prashant Bhamare, HOD & Director – Obstetrics and Gynecology at Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Navi Mumbai, the workshop was designed to strengthen the capabilities of doctors in performing complex procedures through the adoption of advanced surgical techniques.
The workshop featured three complex Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (TLH) surgeries, each addressing distinct clinical challenges. One procedure included Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy, involving the removal of both ovaries and fallopian tubes, commonly required for conditions such as fibroids, ovarian cysts, or cancer. Another case demonstrated TLH with Endometriosis, a condition in which tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, causing significant pain. The third surgery focused on TLH in a patient with a history of two previous Caesarean Sections (LSCS), highlighting the complexities arising from scar tissue and anatomical changes.
The central focus of the workshop remained on managing uterine fibroids, non-cancerous growths in the uterus, particularly in patients with prior surgical histories such as caesarean sections or fibroid removals. These complexities were demonstrated through live cases. Advanced energy devices were utilized during the procedures to ensure precision, minimize complications, and provide comprehensive learning opportunities for participants.
Addressing the session, Dr. Prashant Bhamare stated that the workshop offered an exceptional opportunity for young caregivers to gain hands-on experience in advanced laparoscopic techniques, emphasizing that exposure to complex cases, including fibroid management in patients with prior surgeries, was crucial for understanding modern surgical approaches and improving patient outcomes.
The event also incorporated structured teaching sessions that covered the latest developments in laparoscopic surgery. Discussions included the role of energy devices, which enable surgeons to cut and coagulate tissue using heat, thereby enhancing precision, reducing blood loss, and accelerating patient recovery.

Dr Bindhu KS, President, Navi Mumbai Obstetrics and Gynecological Society, was also present and delivered a keynote address during the session.
