Dense Fog Claims Five Lives in Two Tragic Road Accidents Near Bareilly

Tragedy strikes Bareilly as dense winter fog leads to two horrific road accidents, claiming five lives including a father and his two sons. The accidents on the Bareilly-Nainital and Bareilly-Pilibhit highways have left the local community in shock. Read the full report on the rising danger of low visibility and the impact on daily-wage families.

A lethal blanket of thick fog descended upon the Bareilly region of Uttar Pradesh, resulting in two devastating road accidents that claimed the lives of five people and left several others critically injured. The tragedies, which unfolded under conditions of near-zero visibility, have cast a pall of gloom over the district as families mourn the loss of their primary breadwinners. In the first incident reported from the Bareilly–Nainital highway under the jurisdiction of the Baheri police station, a speeding truck collided head-on with a motorcycle. The impact was so severe that the motorcyclist and his two young sons died on the spot. Local authorities stated that the victim's family, belonging to the daily-wage labor class, was shattered by the sudden loss of three members in a single stroke of fate.

The carnage continued on the Bareilly–Pilibhit stretch within the Hafizganj police station limits, where an e-rickshaw carrying laborers was rammed by another heavy vehicle. The collision resulted in the immediate death of two brothers, while two other laborers seated in the rickshaw sustained life-threatening injuries. Emergency responders rushed the survivors to a nearby private medical facility, where they remain in critical condition. Preliminary investigations suggest that the combination of high speed and the blinding seasonal fog made it impossible for the drivers to maneuver in time. Police have initiated legal proceedings and are working to identify the errant truck drivers who fled the scenes. These incidents highlight the recurring peril of winter transit in Northern India, where the lack of visibility frequently turns highways into death traps for vulnerable commuters and daily earners.
