Delhi Education Order Sparks Political Row as Teachers Asked to Count Stray Dogs
A political controversy has broken out in Delhi after an education department order reportedly asked government school teachers to monitor and count stray dogs. AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha criticised the move, contrasting it with earlier policies, while Ashish Sood issued a denial, intensifying the debate.
Sanjeev Jha, an AAP legislator, expressed strong disapproval of the order, questioning the rationale behind diverting teachers from their core academic responsibilities. He said the directive reflected a troubling approach to the use of educational staff and undermined the professional role of teachers within the public school system.
Jha contrasted the move with the practices followed when AAP was in power in Delhi, stating that during that period government teachers were not assigned non-teaching duties. Instead, he said, the focus was on strengthening the education system, including providing opportunities for teachers to receive professional training abroad to improve classroom outcomes.
The issue escalated after Ashish Sood released a video disputing the claims surrounding the order. Responding to the video, Jha remarked that the denial suggested either a lack of awareness about what was happening within the education department or that different wings of the administration were operating without coordination.
The controversy has triggered wider questions about administrative priorities and the boundaries of teachers’ responsibilities in government schools. As political exchanges continue, the episode has brought renewed attention to how policy decisions affect educators and the functioning of public education in Delhi.
