Fire Breaks Out on Tata–Ernakulam Express in Andhra Pradesh, Passengers Evacuated in Emergency Halt
Two coaches of the Tata–Ernakulam Express caught fire near Elamanchili in Andhra Pradesh, prompting an emergency halt and evacuation. All 158 passengers were safely removed, though one death has been reported. Railway and fire teams controlled the blaze as an investigation begins.
According to railway officials, the alertness of the loco pilot played a critical role in averting further harm. Upon noticing signs of fire, the driver brought the train to an immediate halt, allowing railway staff to begin evacuating passengers without delay. A total of 158 passengers were safely moved out of the affected coaches and escorted away from danger.
Despite the timely action, officials confirmed that one passenger is reported to have died in connection with the incident. The exact circumstances surrounding the death are yet to be clarified and form part of the ongoing investigation. Fire services and railway emergency teams rushed to the site shortly after the alarm was raised and worked to bring the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the train.
Railway authorities have launched a formal inquiry to determine the cause of the fire and assess any technical or operational failures that may have led to the incident. Senior officials said assistance is being provided to affected passengers, including medical help and logistical support, while services in the area are being monitored to minimize disruption.
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of rapid response mechanisms and crew vigilance on long-distance trains. As investigators work to establish what sparked the fire, the focus remains on ensuring passenger safety and strengthening preventive measures to avoid similar emergencies on India’s busy rail corridors.
