Monthly ‘Kisan Diwas’ to Be Launched in Every Block Across Uttarakhand, Bringing Government Directly to Farmers

Uttarakhand will launch a monthly ‘Kisan Diwas’ in every block to address farmers’ issues directly at the grassroots. Praising the move, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the initiative, led by CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, will bring governance to farmers’ doorsteps and could inspire similar efforts nationwide.

Dehradun, Uttarakhand — In a move aimed at strengthening grassroots-level agricultural governance, the Uttarakhand government will begin observing a monthly “Kisan Diwas” in every block of the state, ensuring that farmers’ concerns are heard and addressed directly at the local level. The initiative has drawn praise from senior BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who described it as a model that could inspire similar efforts nationwide.

Speaking on the initiative, Chouhan said the programme reflects a proactive approach to farmer welfare by taking the administration to the doorsteps of cultivators rather than expecting them to navigate bureaucratic channels. Under the plan, government officials will engage directly with farmers each month, listen to their grievances, and work toward timely solutions related to agriculture, irrigation, subsidies, and other pressing issues.

Chouhan highlighted that the decision underscores Uttarakhand’s commitment to inclusive development in its rural and hill regions, where access to administrative support can often be challenging. He noted that institutionalising a fixed monthly forum for farmers creates accountability while fostering trust between the government and the agricultural community.

Commending the state leadership, Chouhan congratulated Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for spearheading the initiative, calling it a significant step toward responsive governance in the agrarian sector. He added that such structured engagement mechanisms could serve as a benchmark for other states seeking to strengthen farmer-centric policies.

The launch of a block-level monthly Kisan Diwas is expected to streamline grievance redressal, improve policy feedback, and reinforce the state’s focus on sustainable agricultural development. As Uttarakhand moves to operationalise the programme, it signals a broader shift toward decentralised governance and direct public outreach in addressing the challenges faced by farmers across the country.
