Public Unity and Judicial Resolve Mark a Democratic Victory: Supriya Shrinate
Congress leader Supriya Shrinate says public unity and citizen courage led to key Supreme Court interventions, including a stay on Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s bail and a halt to an earlier Aravalli-related order, calling the developments a victory of truth, democratic resolve, and collective action.
Shrinate said that citizens across the country came together to oppose the release of a convicted rapist and to protest actions threatening the shared ecological heritage of the Aravalli range. According to her, this sustained public pressure and moral resolve ultimately reached the highest court, resulting in the Supreme Court staying the bail granted to former BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar and placing a halt on its own earlier order related to the Aravalli region.
Emphasising the power of civic engagement, Shrinate noted that the outcome underscored how voices raised against injustice can influence institutional action. She credited the Supreme Court’s decisions to the courage of ordinary people who refused to remain silent in the face of wrongdoing, whether it concerned crimes against women or the protection of fragile natural ecosystems.
Calling on citizens to remain vigilant and outspoken, the Congress leader urged people to challenge falsehoods, stand up for their rights, and raise their voices against oppression. She warned against passive acceptance of injustice, stating that silence in such moments only strengthens those who benefit from wrongdoing.
“Mere spectatorship in the face of injustice is an act of cowardice,” Shrinate said, adding that while Indians may differ in many ways, fearfulness should not be one of them. She described the developments as a triumph of truth and courage, asserting that the credit belonged to the people who chose to speak out rather than look away.
The episode, she said, serves as a reminder of the strength of democratic participation, highlighting how sustained public engagement and judicial oversight can together act as safeguards against injustice and arbitrary power.
