Akhilesh Yadav Flags Concerns Over Rising Dollar and New Trade Tariffs

Akhilesh Yadav voiced strong concerns in Lucknow over the rising US dollar and newly imposed tariffs, warning that the weakening rupee and shifting trade dynamics could hurt India’s economic stability. He also remarked on the Russian President’s visit, stressing its business-driven purpose amid growing economic debates.

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has raised sharp concerns over India’s economic direction, questioning the rapid rise of the US dollar and the Centre’s recent tariff decisions. Speaking in Lucknow, Yadav warned that the growing pressure on the rupee and new trade barriers could carry long-term implications for businesses and consumers alike.

Yadav argued that the continued depreciation of the rupee against the dollar is already straining domestic markets and increasing import-related costs. He linked these economic pressures to the government’s tariff policies, suggesting that the recent levies risk adding further instability at a time when global trade conditions remain unpredictable.

Referring to the recent visit of the Russian President, Yadav said the engagement should be viewed through the lens of economic interests rather than political symbolism. “If the Russian President has come, he has come for business. He is not here to rescue you,” he remarked, underscoring his belief that India must prioritize strengthening its own economic fundamentals.

His comments add to the growing debate over currency volatility and trade strategy at a moment when global partnerships and supply chains are rapidly shifting. As opposition leaders intensify scrutiny of the government’s economic choices, the discussion around tariffs, foreign relations, and the rupee’s fragile trajectory is expected to gain even greater prominence in national politics.
