Passengers Avert Major Mishap as Intoxicated Bus Driver Collapses at the Wheel in Moradabad

A major accident was narrowly avoided in Moradabad when a Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus driver, allegedly intoxicated, collapsed at the wheel. Passengers quickly took control, stopped the bus safely, and recorded the incident. Authorities have confirmed action against the driver as an inquiry into the safety lapse begins.

A potentially disastrous road accident was narrowly avoided in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district after passengers aboard a state-run bus intervened when the driver, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, suddenly collapsed while the vehicle was in motion. The quick reaction of the commuters, who managed to bring the bus to a halt and record the incident on video, prevented what could have been a serious tragedy.

The incident occurred on a Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus when the driver, visibly intoxicated according to eyewitnesses, lost consciousness mid-journey and slumped over in his seat. Passengers immediately rushed to steady the steering and apply the brakes, ensuring the bus did not veer off the road or collide with oncoming traffic.

Video footage captured by the travellers shows the unconscious driver sprawled in his seat, while alarmed passengers take control of the vehicle and call for help. Their prompt action allowed authorities to be alerted without any injuries or damage being reported.

Officials later confirmed the incident and stated that strict action will be taken against the driver. Roadways authorities have also initiated an internal inquiry to determine how an impaired individual was allowed to operate a public transport vehicle, raising renewed concerns over passenger safety and oversight within the transport system.

The close call has amplified public scrutiny regarding driver monitoring and safety protocols on state-run buses. For the passengers, however, the coordinated effort that kept the bus stable and brought it to a safe stop turned an alarming moment into an example of collective vigilance.
