Putin Reaffirms Long-Standing Defence Partnership With India, Expresses Satisfaction Over Recent Talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed Russia’s long-standing defence partnership with India during his New Delhi visit, expressing full satisfaction with recent talks and highlighting continued cooperation in modernising India’s air defence, aviation and naval forces. The renewed assurances aim to deepen the strategic partnership.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to deepening defence cooperation with India, calling the partnership a pillar of bilateral ties that has strengthened over more than five decades. Speaking in New Delhi, Putin underscored Russia’s role in supporting the modernisation of the Indian Armed Forces, including the Air Defence network, aviation capabilities and the Navy, noting that this collaboration has consistently advanced India’s strategic preparedness.

Putin said he was “fully satisfied” with the outcomes of the latest round of discussions between the two sides, signalling continuity in defence production, technology cooperation and long-term strategic coordination. He emphasised that the agreements reached during the visit would reinforce the India–Russia strategic partnership and deliver tangible benefits to both nations and their citizens.

The Russian President’s remarks come at a time when New Delhi and Moscow continue to navigate a shifting global geopolitical landscape while maintaining their traditionally close defence engagement. With India’s military modernisation efforts ongoing and Russia remaining a key supplier of critical defence systems, the renewed assurance is seen as a significant stabilising message for bilateral relations.

As the visit concluded, Putin expressed confidence that the fresh commitments would further strengthen the longstanding partnership and ensure that defence cooperation remains a central element of India–Russia relations in the years ahead.
