Fire Engine Sinks Into Drain Outside Unnao Police Station, Pulled Out With Municipal JCB
A fire engine carrying 5,000 litres of water sank into a drain outside Unnao’s Ganga Ghat police station, forcing police and municipal authorities to launch a coordinated rescue. The vehicle was safely extracted using a JCB, raising fresh concerns over local infrastructure conditions.
According to officials, the fire brigade vehicle was carrying nearly 5,000 litres of water when its rear wheel slipped into a concealed drain at the station’s entrance. The weight of the water-filled tanker caused the wheel to sink deeper, leaving the truck immobilised and tilting dangerously to one side.
Police personnel immediately cordoned off the spot and requested assistance from the municipal corporation. A JCB machine was quickly deployed to the location, and after a cautious, coordinated effort between police and municipal workers, the fire tender was safely lifted and brought back onto stable ground. No injuries or further damage were reported.
Authorities present at the scene, including officers from the police station and officials from the municipal council, monitored the extraction to ensure the vehicle could be removed without risking a rollover or leakage from the water tank.
The incident has raised concerns about the condition of roadside infrastructure in the area, particularly around key administrative facilities. Local officials indicated that an assessment of the damaged drain and surrounding stretch may be initiated to prevent similar disruptions.
The safe recovery of the vehicle brought relief to onlookers, but the episode underscored the continuing need for timely maintenance of civic structures that support essential services such as firefighting and emergency response.
