Sonam Wangchuk’s Wife Questions ‘Achhe Din’ After Prashant Kishor’s Bihar Win

In a post on X, Angmo referred to recent political developments, including Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation and Kishor’s victory in the Bankipur Assembly bypoll. She wrote, “Is the tide turning? First, a resignation following the Jantar Mantar protests. Now, Prashant Kishor breaches the BJP's long-held Bankipur bastion with a remarkable victory.”

She further raised questions over the changing political landscape, writing, “Is India asking for a new grammar of politics? Are achhe din finally ahead?”

Her remarks came after Prashant Kishor won the Bankipur Assembly bypoll, ending the BJP’s long-held control over the constituency. The phrase “achhe din” was the BJP’s widely used campaign slogan during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and has since remained closely associated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government.

Kishor on Monday defeated BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha by 19,324 votes in the bypoll. Kishor secured 64,151 votes, while Neeraj Kumar Sinha received 44,827 votes. RJD candidate Rekha Gupta finished third with 14,273 votes.

After his first electoral victory, Kishor said that people wanted the BJP to appoint a “better person” as Chief Minister and shift the political discourse “from crime and caste to education, employment and migration”.

The result marked a setback for the BJP, which had retained the urban constituency since 1995. The Bankipur seat became vacant after BJP national president Nitin Nabin, who had represented the constituency for multiple terms like his father before him, was elected to the Rajya Sabha.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Kishor said, “What has changed is that the BJP has given a new leadership in Bihar that is unacceptable to the people of Bihar.” He also claimed that voters were uncomfortable with Samrat Choudhary’s “conduct, character and face.”

The Bankipur bypoll outcome has emerged as a significant political development in Bihar, with Kishor’s victory challenging the BJP’s long-standing hold over the constituency and sparking fresh discussions on the state’s political direction.
