Suryakumar Yadav Set to Return for Crucial Mumbai Indians Clash Against Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Mumbai Indians have received a major boost ahead of their IPL 2026 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru as Suryakumar Yadav is set to return after the birth of his daughter. Hardik Pandya remains doubtful with a back strain, making the Raipur encounter crucial for Mumbai's fading playoff hopes.
In a major boost ahead of the high-profile encounter, Mumbai Indians have received encouraging news regarding their premier batter Suryakumar Yadav, who is now expected to be available for selection against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Suryakumar Yadav, who captains India's Twenty20 International side and represents Mumbai Indians in the IPL, had returned home following the birth of his daughter. His wife delivered a baby girl, prompting the batter to leave the team after Mumbai Indians' match against Lucknow Super Giants on May 4. His participation in the upcoming fixture had remained uncertain.
However, according to a report by Cricbuzz, Suryakumar Yadav has informed the franchise that he is available for the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and is expected to rejoin the squad in Raipur shortly.
The dynamic batter had also stepped in as stand-in captain during Mumbai Indians' previous match against Lucknow Super Giants after regular captain Hardik Pandya was ruled unfit shortly before the game.
Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya's availability for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru clash remains uncertain. The Mumbai Indians captain is currently dealing with a back strain, and his participation will depend on assessments by the franchise's Head of Sports Medicine, Ben Langley, and physiotherapist Nitin Patel.
Hardik underwent a fitness test on May 8 and was scheduled for another evaluation on May 9. Team management remains optimistic that he will be able to take part in the evening practice session and potentially return to lead the side in this must-win contest.
Mumbai Indians have endured a disappointing season so far, managing only three victories from ten matches while suffering seven defeats. With their playoff hopes hanging by a thread, the five-time champions face a daunting challenge and must win all their remaining matches to stay alive in the race for a place in the knockout stage.
The return of Suryakumar Yadav could provide the much-needed momentum Mumbai Indians desperately require as they prepare for a defining battle against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Raipur.
