Barat Violence in Ayodhya: Wedding Guests from Delhi Allegedly Assaulted, SUV Smashed and Cash Looted; FIR Yet to Be Registered
A violent attack during a wedding procession in Ayodhya's Mirmaoo village has sparked outrage after guests from Delhi were allegedly assaulted, their Scorpio SUV vandalized and Rs 40,000 looted. Despite a viral video and written complaint, victims claim Baba Bazar Police Station has not yet registered an FIR, raising questions over police action.
According to the allegations, several young men from Delhi arrived in a Scorpio sport utility vehicle to attend a relative's wedding and later joined the marriage procession in the village. During the celebrations, they were allegedly attacked by a group of assailants who assaulted the Delhi visitors as well as other members of the wedding party. Witnesses claim the attackers created chaos at the venue, turning a joyous occasion into a scene of panic and fear.
The accused are also alleged to have vandalized the Scorpio vehicle, causing extensive damage. Santosh Gupta, one of the victims, stated that the attackers not only smashed the vehicle but also mercilessly beat the occupants. He further alleged that approximately Rs 40,000 in cash was taken from them before the assailants fled the scene.
Following the incident, Santosh Gupta submitted a written complaint at Baba Bazar Police Station and demanded that a criminal case be registered. However, he has alleged that despite the circulation of the video and more than 24 hours having passed since the attack, no First Information Report has been lodged.
The victim further claimed that local police officials repeatedly asked him to modify his complaint and remove the allegation regarding the theft of cash, stating that only then would a formal case be registered. The allegation has intensified public anger and raised serious questions about the handling of the matter by the local police.
Station House Officer Shailendra Kumar Azad of Baba Bazar Police Station said that the matter is currently under investigation. He stated that the scene of the incident has been inspected and statements of witnesses are being recorded. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
Residents of the area said the violent attack during a wedding ceremony has created an atmosphere of fear and tension in the village. Police have begun efforts to identify the accused individuals seen in the viral video. The assault reportedly caused chaos and stampede-like conditions among the wedding guests.
The incident has drawn significant attention because it occurred during what was meant to be a celebration of joy and family unity. With allegations of assault, vandalism, robbery and delay in registering a formal complaint, the case has become a serious test of law enforcement accountability in Ayodhya.
