Taking to social media, Satwiksairaj stated that his earlier comments about the lack of recognition for the team’s achievement may have been misunderstood. He stressed that his intention was never to seek personal fame or diminish the accomplishments of athletes from other sports disciplines.
“The last few days have brought a lot of attention to my recent comments regarding the lack of a reception for our Thomas Cup bronze medal. While I am grateful for the overwhelming support and encouragement, I want to clarify my intent because I see many people deviating from the original point,” he wrote.
The Indian badminton star said his comments were aimed at encouraging a stronger culture of appreciation for athletes representing the country on the international stage. He emphasized that every medal and podium finish reflects years of dedication, sacrifice, and relentless hard work.
“My words did not come from a place of wanting personal fame or taking credit away from anyone else’s achievements. I have the utmost respect for every athlete who brings glory to India, regardless of the sport,” he stated.
Satwiksairaj further explained that victories in international events such as the Thomas Cup deserve equal acknowledgment because they inspire future generations of athletes. According to him, silence surrounding such milestones can be discouraging not only for current players but also for aspiring sportspersons watching their journeys.
