This year’s theme, “Fashion Is Art,” attracted some of the world’s biggest stars, including Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour, who served as co-chairs for the prestigious event.
While the official red carpet photographs showcased the grandeur associated with the Met Gala, a circulating clip on X revealed a different side of the event that quickly triggered widespread social media discussion. The video, reportedly filmed from a passing vehicle, showed celebrities entering the venue through a massive covered tunnel-like structure constructed along a regular New York City street.
In the footage, Beyoncé was seen posing on the staircase while her daughter Blue Ivy Carter followed closely behind. However, the focus of online discussion rapidly shifted away from the celebrities and toward the temporary structure itself.
Several social media users expressed surprise that one of the world’s most exclusive fashion events relied on a large tented installation instead of a permanent grand entrance. One viral post mocked the arrangement by claiming that “Indian wedding decorators do a better job hiding the street than a million Met Gala event.”
Despite the criticism and online humour, the covered entrance is not a new feature of the Met Gala. The temporary installation has been part of the event’s operational setup for years. Since 2011, Arena Americas has partnered with the museum to construct large-scale temporary structures covering the iconic steps and surrounding areas.
The installation process reportedly takes several days to complete while the museum continues operating for visitors. Stretching across nearly two city blocks, the setup is designed to accommodate media operations, celebrity arrivals, hospitality arrangements, and heightened security measures required for the star-studded gathering.
The viral video has once again highlighted the intense public fascination surrounding the Met Gala, proving that even the event’s behind-the-scenes logistics can generate as much attention as the celebrity appearances and designer fashion displayed on the red carpet.
