FIR Registered Against JD(U) MLA Anant Singh After Viral Videos Show Weapons Display and Obscene Dance at Ceremony in Bihar
An FIR has been filed against JD(U) MLA Anant Singh after viral videos allegedly showed firearms display and an obscene dance at a ceremony in Bihar’s Gopalganj. Police have named multiple accused and launched an investigation following public outrage and concerns over law and order.
The incident occurred during a two-day ceremony held on April 2 and 3 at the residence of Guddu Rai in Semrao village under the jurisdiction of the Mirganj Police Station. Singh attended the event along with hundreds of supporters. According to police officials, multiple individuals were seen brandishing both licensed and prohibited weapons during the celebrations, while dancers performed at the venue.
Authorities stated that the videos, which later surfaced online, led to an immediate review. Acting on directions from Gopalganj Superintendent of Police Vinay Tiwari, the Hathua Sub-Divisional Police Officer examined the footage and identified several individuals allegedly involved in displaying weapons and recording the event.
Based on this verification, Mirganj Police Station registered case number 247/26 on May 4 against nine named accused and several unidentified persons. Those named in the FIR include organisers Guddu Rai, Utsav Rai, Priyanshu Kumar, Tishu Rai, Saurav Kumar Rai, Vishal Rai, and Sunil Yadav, along with Anant Singh and Gunjan Singh.
Police officials said the public display of weapons created an atmosphere of fear in the area. Charges related to obscenity and disturbance of public peace have also been included in the case.
One of the viral clips shows Anant Singh seated in the front row watching a dance performance. He is seen clapping as attendees shower currency notes on the performer. Other clips allegedly depict men dancing while holding firearms alongside performers.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have stated that further action will be taken based on evidence gathered from the videos.
During his journey to Gopalganj, Singh also targeted Pappu Yadav in an interaction with journalists. Responding to criticism from the Purnea Member of Parliament, Singh remarked dismissively, stating that he did not recognize him and making derogatory comments.
The development follows Singh’s recent release on bail in connection with the murder of RJD leader Dularchand during the Bihar Assembly election period. He was arrested in November last year by Patna police from his residence in Mokama after being accused of involvement in the killing along with his supporters. Singh remained in custody for nearly four months before the Patna High Court granted him regular bail on March 19, 2026. He was released from jail on March 23 and subsequently claimed that the case against him was part of a conspiracy.
Following his release, Singh announced that he would no longer contest elections and stated that his son would assume his political responsibilities. He also expressed support for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, adding that he would stay away from electoral politics if Kumar did not continue in office.
The incident has intensified scrutiny over public events involving influential political figures, raising concerns about law enforcement, public safety, and the open display of weapons during social gatherings in the region.
