Hardeep Singh Puri Reaches Qatar Amid Middle East Ceasefire to Bolster Strategic Energy Ties and Engage Indian Diaspora
India's Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri visits Qatar during a two-week Middle East ceasefire to meet QatarEnergy CEO Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi. Amidst global inflation caused by a 40-day conflict, the visit strengthens energy ties, trade, and investment while acknowledging the support provided to the Indian community in Doha following the March 2026 regional crisis.
Upon his arrival on the afternoon of April 9, Minister Puri was accorded a warm reception by the Indian community at an event organized by the Indian Embassy in collaboration with various Indian community organizations. During the gathering, the Minister expressed profound gratitude toward the leadership and the people of Qatar for providing invaluable support to the Indian diaspora during the recent difficult circumstances. He commended the community for its resilience and urged its members to continue their efforts in strengthening the enduring bond between India and Qatar. The Indian Embassy in Qatar, through a post on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, highlighted the Minister’s appreciation for the community’s role and the Qatari leadership’s steadfast cooperation.
The diplomatic mission moved into official deliberations on the evening of the first day, as Minister Puri held a significant meeting with Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and the President and CEO of QatarEnergy. During this meeting, Hardeep Singh Puri conveyed messages of solidarity and support on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Amir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The dialogue served as a platform to revisit the two critical telephonic conversations held between Prime Minister Modi and the Amir following the outbreak of conflict in March 2026, where both leaders emphasized the urgent necessity of restoring peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy.
The ministers engaged in comprehensive discussions covering all facets of the strategic partnership, ranging from high-level political engagement and trade to investment, energy, culture, and people-to-people ties. Prime Minister Modi’s gratitude for the care and support extended to the Indian community by the Amir was formally reiterated during these talks. As the visit progressed, both nations expressed a shared hope for the swift return of lasting peace to the region and a commitment to further deepening the bilateral relationship. This diplomatic engagement not only highlights India's proactive energy diplomacy but also reinforces the vital role of the 2026 peace initiatives in securing global economic stability and fostering regional cooperation.
