BJP Alleges Violent Attack on Party President’s Convoy in Bengal, Claims Hundreds of Workers Killed

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra alleges that JP Nadda’s convoy was attacked with stones and sticks during election campaigning in West Bengal, accusing Mamata Banerjee and the TMC of enabling violence. He claims over 300 BJP workers have been killed, citing failure of state security.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday renewed serious allegations against the West Bengal government, with senior party leader and national spokesperson Sambit Patra accusing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of orchestrating violent attacks during the previous election cycle, including an assault on BJP president JP Nadda’s convoy.

Addressing the media in the national capital, Patra claimed that when Nadda was campaigning in West Bengal during the last assembly election, his convoy was allegedly attacked with stones and sticks. According to Patra, the incident took place amid heightened political tensions and was carried out with the alleged support of infiltrators, whom he accused the ruling TMC of enabling. He directly held Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee responsible, asserting that the attack reflected a breakdown of law and order in the state during the election period.

The BJP spokesperson further escalated his criticism by claiming that political violence in West Bengal has led to the deaths of more than 300 BJP workers so far. He alleged that these killings were a consequence of systematic intimidation and targeted violence against opposition supporters, particularly after elections. Patra accused the state administration of failing to provide adequate security to political workers and of remaining indifferent to repeated complaints raised by the BJP.

Highlighting what he described as a pattern of political violence, Patra said the party has consistently raised concerns with constitutional authorities, including the Election Commission and central agencies, over the safety of its leaders and grassroots workers in the state. He maintained that the alleged attack on Nadda’s convoy was not an isolated incident but part of a broader atmosphere of fear and coercion in West Bengal politics.

The Trinamool Congress and the West Bengal government have, in the past, rejected similar allegations, maintaining that the state follows the rule of law and accusing the BJP of politicising isolated incidents for electoral gain. However, Patra insisted that the scale and frequency of violence point to a deeper administrative failure that cannot be ignored.

The fresh allegations are likely to intensify the already sharp political confrontation between the BJP and the TMC, especially as both parties continue to trade charges over governance, security, and democratic norms in the state. With political violence remaining a contentious issue in West Bengal, the claims once again raise questions about accountability, the protection of political workers, and the role of state authorities in ensuring a fair and secure democratic process.
