Amit Shah Unveils NIA’s National Weapons Database, Honours Officers for Service Excellence

Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled a new weapons database developed by the National Investigation Agency in New Delhi, calling it a major boost to counterterrorism and crime control. Shah also awarded medals to NIA officers for their outstanding contributions to national security.

New Delhi — In a move aimed at strengthening India’s counterterrorism and law enforcement capabilities, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday unveiled a comprehensive weapons database developed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The launch marked a significant step toward enhancing intelligence-driven policing and improving coordination in the fight against terrorism and serious crime.

The new database, prepared by the NIA, is designed to systematically record and analyse information related to weapons used in terror activities and criminal cases across the country. Officials said the platform will enable faster identification, tracking, and linkage of weapons to multiple incidents, thereby supporting more precise and effective investigations.

Addressing the gathering at the unveiling ceremony, Shah said the initiative would play a crucial role in reinforcing India’s internal security framework. He underlined that technology-driven tools such as this database are essential to staying ahead of increasingly sophisticated terror networks and organised crime groups. According to him, the platform will significantly improve the ability of security agencies to take timely and decisive action against offenders.

During the event, the Home Minister also presented medals to NIA officers in recognition of their outstanding service and contributions to national security. The awards were given to acknowledge exceptional professionalism, dedication, and results achieved by officers in handling complex and sensitive investigations.
