Amit Shah Unveils NIA’s National Weapons Database, Honours Officers for Service Excellence
Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled a new weapons database developed by the National Investigation Agency in New Delhi, calling it a major boost to counterterrorism and crime control. Shah also awarded medals to NIA officers for their outstanding contributions to national security.
The new database, prepared by the NIA, is designed to systematically record and analyse information related to weapons used in terror activities and criminal cases across the country. Officials said the platform will enable faster identification, tracking, and linkage of weapons to multiple incidents, thereby supporting more precise and effective investigations.
Addressing the gathering at the unveiling ceremony, Shah said the initiative would play a crucial role in reinforcing India’s internal security framework. He underlined that technology-driven tools such as this database are essential to staying ahead of increasingly sophisticated terror networks and organised crime groups. According to him, the platform will significantly improve the ability of security agencies to take timely and decisive action against offenders.
During the event, the Home Minister also presented medals to NIA officers in recognition of their outstanding service and contributions to national security. The awards were given to acknowledge exceptional professionalism, dedication, and results achieved by officers in handling complex and sensitive investigations.
Senior officials present at the ceremony described the weapons database as the outcome of sustained teamwork and advanced technical expertise within the agency. They noted that the system has been developed to support long-term intelligence analysis while remaining adaptable to emerging threats and evolving criminal methodologies.
The NIA, India’s premier counterterrorism agency, has increasingly relied on data integration and digital tools to strengthen its investigative processes. The newly unveiled database is expected to complement existing intelligence mechanisms and improve inter-agency collaboration at both the central and state levels.
Concluding the event, officials emphasised that the combination of skilled personnel and modern technology is key to ensuring national security in a rapidly changing threat landscape. The launch of the weapons database and the recognition of officers’ service together highlighted the government’s broader focus on empowering institutions tasked with safeguarding the country.
